Robin Morris short stories

The Man Who Knew by Robin Morris

What if you knew that, today, you were going to die?  What would you do?  Would you flee?  Could you?  Or would escape only take you closer to death’s doorway?  …What if you knew?

Editor’s Note: Another wonderful discovery.  Here we have an author whose voice and stories ring clean, clear, sharply stark and startling.  Though horror by definition, this story is actually what I define as paranormal.  An exceptionally deep and moving experience. (horror, paranormal)

The Old Silk Hat by Robin Morris

Granpa’s room smells of pee, and that’s because Granpa’s in there dying.  Can little Stevie avoid going in while his Mom tends the old man?  Of course not — his cheerful singing is overheard by the old man, who calls the boy to him.  Now all Stevie has to do is listen to a story about a snowman…just a small, harmless, story. …Or is it?  (Horror)

EDITOR’S NOTE:  Robin Morris takes us back in time with this chilling tale — back to when we were little and adults were all-powerful — and she gives us a fictional study of a child’s utter powerlessness beneath the scrutiny of the older generation.  And while the adults play a game of greed and spite in the background, Robin has us concentrate on the boy and his fear in a sublime and all too real way.  Wonderfully crafted, a spooky tale indeed.  —womblin

The Turkish Knives by Robin Morris

Take a trip into a desert inferno with Josh, juggler extraordinaire, who searches for legend and knowledge.  But be wary — this knowledge comes at a price.  Josh believes he has skill enough to pay, but what of the cost?  (Horror)

Editor’s Note: Feel the heat in this, Robin Morris’ second Deepening story.  Again, she eases us somewhere we don’t really want to go, but we are helpless to resist.  Again, her characterisation and choice of detail have her characters and setting sitting real in our minds.  Read and enjoy a shiver in the damning desert heat.  —womblin
