Science Fiction and Literary Humour short stories
David McVey is from Scotland and works as an Educational Development Lecturer at the University of Paisley. He writes fiction, non-fiction (history and the outdoors are favourite topics) and has published hundreds of items. He has also had a few awful poems published and feels a bit guilty about it. He enjoys hillwalking, visiting historic sites, reading, television, and watching football (ie, soccer). His hometown football team, Kirkintilloch Rob Roy FC, has the best name of any sporting combo on the planet. Fact. He writes at home, on trains, in cafes and in his head. Favourite authors include (fiction) Robert Louis Stevenson, MR James, John Buchan, George Mackay Brown, Garrison Keillor, Ruth Rendell, Kazuo Ishiguro, Ian McEwan, Dilys Rose and Candia McWilliam.
David McVey short stories
Excerpts from the Spiritual Journal of Stephen Coldstream by David McVey
Years of marriage have staled their marital bliss. Seeking advice, Stephen Coldstream goes to his trusted pastor, one Reverend Victor Mitchell, who suggests…. (Literary / Humour)
Editor’s Note: This lovely work by David McVey immediately brought a chuckle from the very first paragraph, then continued delivering with the most satisfying sublety of tongue-firmly-planted-in-cheek. One simply must sympathize, even as one’s eyes roll back in disbelief, at poor Stephen’s conundrum. Thumbs up for this wonderful story about an all-thumbs would-be romancer. Excellent! —zentao
Time Warped by Tennis Ball by David McVey
When a young man’s tennis ball disappears through a wall, he investigates, only to find himself potentially lost in the folds of time and possibility with an oddball host. (Science Fiction / Humour)
Editor’s Note: David McVey has that easy, relaxed way of writing that so well carries an underlying tone of humor and serendipity, yet demands us to pay attention to every detail and surprise. —zentao
