Anita Davison

Mainstream short stories, Historical novels

author Anita DavisonI was born and brought up in North London sometime during the second half of the 20 th Century, but have lived all over the country and out of it since my twenties. I am married with a grown up son and daughter and now live in Surrey, although how long that will last is anyone’s guess. I have always loved history, although have to admit that when I reached the Repeal of the Corn Laws during history lessons at school, I fell asleep.

The Tudors and Stuarts have always fascinated me and I read everything I can find on the period. I like to visit English country houses that have seen everything from the Civil War to the Glorious Rebellion.

I am a member of several Writing Critique Groups whose members have proved invaluable in helping me turn an idea for a story from the past into a novel.

I wrote Long Way Home as a writing exercise, the brief being, take a current joke circulating on the internet and make it into a short story — I chose this one.

My debut novel is Mainstream Historical Fiction — Duking Days — Rebellion which will be published by Enspiren Press in summer 2007.

Duking Days — Rebellion

Helena Woulfe, the daughter of a wealthy Exeter nobleman leads a privileged life. However, as King Charles II’s reign comes to an end, so does her innocence.

As rebellion sweeps the West Country, her family is caught in its grip, and she finds herself on the road searching for her missing Rebel father and brother after their bloody defeat in battle at Sedgemoor.

Her life is further torn apart when soldiers ransack her home, killing her mother; their estate confiscated by the crown. Helena and her younger brother Henry, seek refuge with a kind family who take them in, but danger is never far away and they are encouraged to hide in London.

Feeling bereft and abandoned, Helena hopes the city will overlook her past and is determined to make a new life, and perhaps find love. Only, there are others lurking, willing to do harm to a traitor’s daughter and, before she can find happiness with Guy, the man who offers her the security and respectability she seeks, she learns her family’s allegiances can snatch away her safety at any time.
