“Ignore all boundaries.”
My name is Daryl John Bishop; I was born in Munster, Germany twenty nine years ago and was raised in Sheffield, England where I currently reside. As a youngster I was fascinated by all things of a fantasy nature and filled my days with role-playing games and all the associated trappings. Through my experience in this field I began to write. Years later I broadened my horizons and studied fine art and developed my skills as a conceptual artist; I found that it was only through writing that I could really be free to express myself and that words were the only art-form where I could truly ignore all boundaries.
I have written various short film scripts, poems and stories but my main passion is to write novels. I am currently working on my first novel “Anathema: Pawns of Praad” which is a fantasy story with a very “human” approach. In this I try to avoid many of the clichés affiliated with fantasy and attempt to tell my tale from the perspective of the “little man.” My work is almost always of a dark nature, and I often relish the chance to delve into the bleaker side of human existence. Having said that my aim is to inspire and my stories always contain a vein of hope, and will hopefully (eventually) lift the spirit of my readers.
My ultimate ambition is to inspire others in the ways that I have been inspired throughout my life. It is largely thanks to the books I have read over the years that I have grown as a person and tackled my life, which has been tough going at times and often dysfunctional. I believe that to connect with any one reader in this way is a lifetime aim fulfilled.
Story List
The Yearning by Daryl John Bishop
He hungers and takes a risk, but will the payoff be worthwhile? Come with us to the world’s underbelly, to where abandoned buildings yield abandoned humanity…or do they? (Literary/Horror)
Editor’s Note: Daryl Bishop takes us on a journey not only of the dark, but through the emotions of pity and empathy. He writes of emotion learned, perhaps remembered, by a soul not evil, but one controlled by The Yearning. Sad, this, in many ways, and frightening in many more. A story of depth and sorrow. Enjoy? —womblin
