Fantasy
Shelley shares a small home with her husband, pit bull, box turtle, and parrot. The parrot is most likely to draw blood, though the turtle does enjoy a good battle with her veterinarian. Shelley is happiest elbow-deep in garden soil or bread dough.

The Purpose of Rufus Destowitz by Shelley Spedowfski
Why would anyone climb a freezing cold mountain to see Rufus Destowitz, only to be thrown down again. What possible treasures does that miserable old man hoard in his cave up there? Only Rufus himself knows. Oh, and Flora. (Fantasy)
Editor’s Note: Funny, heart-warming, and not a little wicked, as the elderly can sometimes be, “The Purpose of Rufus Destowitz” will make you laugh, yet warm your ‘cockles’ too. Enjoy Shelley Spedowfski’s first The Deepening offering, and hope for many more. —womblin
