HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Selene has nightmares about a woman in a Big Black Hat. The words “BAD, BAD, BAD” echo through the dream from a disembodied voice she doesn’t recognize. And then she actually meets the woman in the Big Black Hat, and that woman is her birth mother!

Selene is adopted. Into a loving Mormon family. But. Selene used to be Micaela, a child abducted from her parents when she was only three. And now her birth family has found her living with her “forever family,” and nothing will ever be the same!

This is not your common 21st century middle grade fiction. It doesn’t explore sexuality or homosexuality. It doesn’t embrace “bad girl” behavior. It’s a pretty real look into a rural Idaho girl’s experience, seen through her eyes and thoughts, of a terrible crisis in her life.

SAFE FOR ALL AGES!

Today, Heidi Willis, author of the book, Some Kind of Normal, dropped by and posted on The Deepening’s About page. And she dropped a link to her website, which I then checked out…to find a whole bunch of excellent testimonial snips and the following video. I was impressed by the book (as were others), and I’m impressed by the video, which I think speaks well for the story, which I am attempting to order through my local library. Do consider buying Heidi’s book, published by NorLights Press. Or, if you’re like me and have limited discretionary funds, try to check it out from your local library, though I’m sure that you, like me, will have to use the interlibrary loan feature to get it.
